Spanish Introductory Visit to Portugal
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain paid a one-day introductory visit to neighbouring Portugal on July 7th.
Following on from their recent visit to the Vatican, the Spanish King and Queen arrived at the military airport Figo Maduro near Lisbon and were greeted by the the Spanish Ambassador to the Portuguese Republic. After the greeting ceremony, the King and Queen moved onto the Belém Palace, where they were warmly received by the Portuguese President, Aníbal Cavaco Silva, and his wife, Maria Cavaco Silva.
King Felipe VI, accompanied by the President, went onto inspect a review of troops, while Queen Letizia held a private meeting with the Portuguese First Lady. A formal luncheon in honour honour of the visit was later hosted by the President, where among the invited guests were the Duke and Duchess of Braganza, Prince Charles-Philippe, Duke de Anjou and the Duchess of Anjou and Cadaval.
After lunch the King and Queen went on to pay a visit to the Portuguese Assembly and later to the Prime Minister at his official residence.
