King Willem-Alexander Marks Veteran’s Day
Yesterday the Netherlands celebrated the tenth Veteran’s Day in The Hague, in a ceremony attended by King Willem-Alexander and Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
A parade of military veterans who have served since World War Two took place, beginning and ending at the Malieveld. Veteran’s Day celebrates the over 100,000 Dutch military men and women who have fought to achieve peace, and was begun by the Dutch government in conjunction with the Dutch Veterans Committee and the Ministry of Defence.
During the ceremony, King Willem-Alexander received a book entitled Tien Veteranen Verhalen (Ten Veterans’ Stories) from its author, Gerdi Verbeet. The book tells the stories of ten veterans, told either by themselves or members of their families.
