Photo Shoot in Cayx for Henrik’s 80th Birthday

A photo shoot took place this morning at Château de Cayx to mark Prince Henrik of Denmark’s 80th birthday.

The Prince’s immediate family were all present – wife, Queen Margrethe II, and both sons, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim, with their wives and children. Prince Henrik led the family out on to the lawn where the photographers were gathered, holding the hands of his two eldest granddaughters, Princesses Isabella and Josephine.

After the brief session, Prince Henrik thanked the photographers for coming, and told them to “come over and have a glass of my wine. It’s good.”

Prince Henrik was born on June 11, 1934 in Gironde, France as Count Henri de Laborde de Monpezat. His parents were Count André de Laborde de Monpezat and Renée Doursenot. He spent his childhood in what was then known as French Indochina (now Vietnam) and France, before returning to Vietnam for high school. Attending Sorbonne (the University of Paris) between 1952 and 1957, the Prince studied law and political science.

He married the heir to the Danish throne, Princess Margrethe, in June 1967. They have two sons, Frederik (b. 1968) and Joachim (b. 1969). Prince Henrik has written and published poetry in French, and created a range of wines that a grown at his French château.
