Princess Leonore, Duchess of Gotland is Christened

Princess Leonore, Duchess of Gotland’s christening ceremony took place on June 8 at the Royal Chapel in Drottningholm Palace in Sweden. The service was conducted by Archbishop Anders Wejryd, and was assisted by Lars-Göran Lönnermark, the Chaplin to the King and Michael Bjerkhagen, the Pastor of the Royal Court Parish.

Princess Leonore’s full name is Leonore Lilian Maria. It was reported that Leonore was a name both her parents liked, as well as beeing a variant of Eleonora, the name of sevral Swedish Queens. She wore the traditional christening gown, which was first worn by Prince Gustaf Adolf in 1906, as well as the Order of the Seraphim, and worn last by her cousin, Princess Estelle, at her christening in 2012. Swedish Royals originally recieved the order upon their eighteenth birthdays, but at the time of Princess Estelle’s christening, King Carl Gustaf changed the law. Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip, Princess Madeleine and Princess Estelle have also worn the christening gown.

Princess Eugenie’s Crown was also placed in the Royal Chapel, which was made in 1880 and is modelled on Princess Hedvig Elisabet Charlotta’s crown, which dates from 1778. After the christening, the family were recieved for lunch at The Ehrenstrahl Hall within the Palace.

Princess Leonore’s godparents were Crown Princess Victoria, Ms Louise Gottlieb (a friend of Madeleine), Mr Patrick Sommerlath (a relative of Silvia), Ms Tatjana d’Abo (Christopher’s sister), Count Ernst Abensperg und Traun (Christopher’s brother-in-law) and Miss Alice Bamford (a childhood friend of Christopher).
