Queen Sofia of Spain Visits Guatemala

Queen Sofia of Spain is currently on a three-day cooperation visit to the Republic of Guatemala. The Spanish Queen Consort arrived in Guatemala City accompanied by the Spanish Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Latin America on March 18th.
Shortly after arriving in Guatemala City, the Queen met with the President at the Palacio Nacional de la Cultura. Following this meeting, Queen Sofia accompanied by the First Lady went onto visit the Ministry of Equality and met with the Attorney General.
The aim of the visit is to see first hand the valuable worked carried out by The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation in the Republic of Guatemala in trying to combat poverty. The Queen will visit several of these projects over her visit.
The Queen Sofia Foundation also donated over 800 kilos of medicines for the “Hospitalito Atitlan” which arrived on an Airbus 310 of the Spanish Air Force from Madrid. The hospital in question serves a remote southern region of the Guatemalan highlands.
Queen Sofia will return to Spain on Friday having concluded her visit to the Republic of Guatemala.
