Greek and Spanish Royals Commemorate 50th Anniversary of King Paul’s Death

On March 6, the Greek and Spanish Royal Families attended an orthodox mass in connection with the 50th anniversary of King Paul’s death. The mass took place at Tatoi Palace in Athens, Greece.

Those present were the Greek and Spanish Royal Families, although King Juan Carlos was unable to attend. Other royals, such as the former Tsar Simeon of Bulgaria, Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia, Archduchess Helen of Austria, Tatiana Fruchard (née Princess Radziwill), Prince Michael and Princess Marina of Greece and the Margrave and Margravine of Baden, were also present.

King Paul I of Greece was born in Athens on 14 December 1901. He was the third son and fourth child of King Constantine I of Greece and his wife, Princess Sophia of Prussia. For part of his education, he trained as a naval officer. On 9 January 1938, King Paul married Princess Frederica of Hanover and they had three children; Sophia/Sofia (born in 1938 – she is married to King Juan Carlos of Spain and they have three children; Felipe, Elena and Cristina), Constantine II of Greece (born in 1940 – he married Princess Anne Marie of Denmark and they have five children; Alexia, Pavlos, Nikolaos, Theodora and Philippos) and Irene (born in 1942).
