Letizia, Princess of Asturias Turns 41

Spain’s Princess of Asturias celebrates her 41st birthday on September 15th.

Born Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano in Oviedo, Asturias in northern Spain in 1972. The family later moved to Madrid  where Letizia went onto persue a career in journalism.

Letizia married Alonso Guerrero Pérez in a civil ceremony in August 1998, but this union ended in divorce a year later. Letizia then landed herself presenting jobs at CNN+ and later moved to Spain’s national broadcaster, TVE in 2000.

To much surprise, it was announced in November 2003 that Letizia was to marry Prince Felipe of Spain and the date was set for May 22nd, 2004. Felipe and Letizia tied the knot in a lavish ceremony at the Cathedral Santa María la Real de la Almudena in Madrid. The couple currently have two daughters, Infanta Leonor born in 2005 and Infanta Sofia born in 2007.
