King Albert II of Belgium Turns 79

King Albert II of the Belgians celebrated his 79th birthday yesterday.
The King was born at the Chateau Stuyvenberg in 1934, the second son of King Leopold III and Astrid of Sweden. In 1958, he married the Italian noble Donna Paola Ruffo di Calabria and the couple have three children: Crown Prince Philippe, Princess Astrid and Prince Laurent of Belgium.
Following the sudden death of his older brother, King Baudouin, in July 1993, Albert succeeded him as King. His Majesty will also celebrate 20 years on the throne later this summer.
