Queen Noor Visits Azerbaijan

Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, the widow of the King Hussein, visited Azerbaijan on 6th May, 2013 to participate in the First South Caucasus Forum.

The Queen attended an official reception hosted by the President of Azerbaijan in honor of the participants of the Forum. She was also received by the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev, at the Presidential Palace in Baku. During the meeting they noted the significance of developing cultural ties between Azerbaijani and Jordanian peoples.

Her last engagement in Azerbaijan was the South Caucasus Forum. The forum was organized by the Azerbaijani State Committee for Work with Diaspora, the International Center of Nizami Ganjavi and the Club of Madrid. The forum involved more than 60 current and former heads of state and government, prominent politicians, as well as 400 experts from 70 countries and international organizations.

Participants of the meeting discuss issues of democracy, inclusive and socially cohesive society, and economic, social and political empowerment of women.

During her speech, Queen Noor said that the creativity and ideas of Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi remains relevant today “as he advocated for political reform, inter-ethnic dialogue and cooperation between peoples.” The Queen expressed concern about the fate of people missing during the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“The resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is of great importance both for the region and for other countries in the world,” she said.
