Deaths in the Houses of Bavaria and Schaumburg-Lippe

There have been two deaths this past week in former German royal houses.

Princess Editha of Bavaria, the third child of Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria and his second wife Princess Antonia of Luxembourg, passed away on May 4th.

The Princess was born on September 16, 1924 in Hohenburg. She married twice: firstly to Tito Tommasso Brunetti, secondly to Gustav Christian Schimert. Princess Editha had three children by each of her husbands: Serena, Carlotta and Antonia Brunetti, and Andreas, Christian and Constantin Schimert.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren.

Fürstin Benita zu Schaumburg-Lippe, born Baroness Eva-Benita of Tiele-Winckler in 1927, passed away during the night of May 8th in a German hospital. She is the mother of the current head of the House of Schaumburg-Lippe, Fürst Alexander.

The Fürstin married then-Hereditary Prince Philipp-Ernst in 1955, and bore two sons: Georg-Wilhelm (1956-1983) and Alexander. Her husband became the head of the house in 1962, and passed away in 2003. Benita was involved in a serious car accident in 2007, from which she never fully recovered.

She is survived by Fürst Alexander, and his three children: Donatus, Felipa and Philomena.
