The Duke of Kent was in Dublin, Ireland yesterday. The first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II paid a visit to the Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin where he laid wreaths at both the memorials to the Irish war dead of both wars and those who died during the 1916 Easter Rising.

The 77-year-old Duke is the first royal to pay an official visit to the cemetery since Princess Grace of Monaco in 1975.

The Duke later visited the tomb of the 19th century Irish political leader Daniel O’Connell. The Duke of Kent is the current president of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
