King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden Turns 67

His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden celebrates his 67th birthday today, April 30th. The Swedish Monarch is also celebrating his Ruby Jubilee this year, which marks the King’s 40th year on the throne.

King Carl XVI Gustaf was born at the Haga Palace in Stockholm in 1946, the only son of Prince Gustaf Adolf of Sweden, Duke of Västerbotten and Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. The King has four sisters: Princesses Margaretha, Birgitta, Désirée and Christina.

The King succeeded his grandfather, King Gustaf VI Adolf on September 15th, 1973. On June 19th, 1976 he married Silvia Sommerlath; the royal couple have three children – Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine.
