The Duke and Duchess of Apulia welcomed their first daughter on December 14, 2012. The baby girl was born at 9:00 in Paris; she is the first daughter and third child of Prince Aimone and Princess Olga. The newborn Princess joins her elder brothers, Umberto and Amedeo. According to the press release from the House of Savoy, both mother and baby Princess are doing well.

Prince Aimone, Duke of Apulia is the son and heir of Prince Amedeo, 5th Duke of Savoy (son of Prince Amedeo, 4th Duke of Aosta and Princess Irene of Greece and Denmark), and his first wife Claude, Princess of Orleans (daughter of Henri, Comte de Paris and Princess Isabelle of Orleans-Braganza). He was born in 1967 in Florence. Princess Olga was born in 1971, the second daughter of Prince Michael of Greece and Denmark and Marina Karella. She graduated Princeton University with a degree in Architecture. Aimone and Olga are double second cousins, both being descendants of Jean of Orleans, Duke de Guise, and King George I of Greece.

The engagement of Prince Aimone and Princess Olga was announced in May of 2005. Their wedding took place in the Church of the Evangelismos of the Virgin Mary at Pano Kambos on September 16, 2008 – the 65th birthday of the groom’s father, Prince Amedeo. Although they married in a Greek Orthodox ceremony (Olga’s religion), the marriage was recognised by the Catholic Church (to which Aimone belongs). Their two sons, Umberto and Amedeo, were born on 7 March 2009 and 24 May 2011 respectively.

The baby Princess will be styled as Princess of Savoy-Aosta. Because the House of Savoy employs Salic Laws, she isn’t in the line of succession to the now-defunct Italian Throne.
