The 2012 Prince of Asturias Awards

The 2012 prestigious Prince of Asturias Awards took place last Friday, October 26th, in Oviedo, the historical capital of the Principality of Asturias.

Shortly before noon on Thursday October 25th, the Prince and Princess of Asturias granted a series of audiences at the Council Room of the Reconquista Hotel in Oviedo. Later that evening, the Prince and Princess of Asturias attended a concert at the Auditorio Principe Felipe in Oviedo.

The awards ceremony took place on Friday, at the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo. Attending the awards ceremony this year were Queen Sofia, Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia. Spanish footballers, Iker Casillas and Xavi Hernandez, were jointly awarded the 2012 Prince of Asturias Award for Sports.

The day after the awards ceremony, the Prince and Princess paid a visit to the town of Bueño in Asturias which was awarded the Exemplary Town of Asturias award for 2012. Despite the pouring rain, the Prince and Princess toured the town and unveiled a plaque to commemorate the town’s award.
