Victoria and Daniel Inaugurate Friends Arena
Last night, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel were present at the inaugural concert of the brand new Friends Arena in Solna.
Friends Arena is the largest indoor stadium in Scandinavia, featuring a retractable roof. and seating for between 50,000 and 65,000 spectators dependent on the event. It has cost an estimated $1.9billion Swedish Kroner to build and is named after a non-profit organisation supported by Swedbank AB which focuses on schoolyard bullying.
The couple arrived just before the concert kicked off at 20:00, and posed briefly for photos on the yellow carpet (which pairs with the arena’s logo). Swedish musical acts including Roxette, Loreen, Eagle-Eye Cherry and the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra performed during the concert, which also saw Crown Princess Victoria take the stage. “I hope that this arena will give us tumultuous, exciting, beautiful and great events and great performances for many, many years,” she said during her speech.
The Crown Princess wore a white and silver skirt and matching jacket, with a black satin top, from the Swedish label Hunkydory.
Prince Daniel is likely to be a regular attendee at Friends Arena, as from 2013, his favourite Swedish football team – AIK – will made the arena its home ground. The Swedish national football team will play England in a friendly match on November 14th at the arena.
