Spanish Royal Family Celebrate National Day 2012
On Friday October 12th, the Spanish Royal Family presided over the annual National Day celebrations in Madrid.
Members of the Royal Family present this year were the King and Queen, the Prince and Princess of Asturias and Infanta Elena, Duchess of Lugo. Notably absent this year was the presence of Infanta Cristina and her husband the Duke Consort of Palma de Mallorca.
Also notable this year was the fact that Infanta Elena was seated in a side gallery and not on the main review stand with the King, Queen, and Prince and Princess of Asturias. Infanta Elena also did not attend the official reception at the Palacio Real in Madrid following the military parade.
Thankfully for all present, the weather was a lot cooler than on National Day 2011 when Madrid had temperatures of 30C.
Fiesta Nacional de España, or Spanish National Day, celebrates the anniversary of Columbus’s arrival in the Americas and also marks Spain’s Day of the Armed Forces.
