As on previous “Día de la Banderita”, female members of the Spanish Royal Family presided over Madrid’s “Día de la Banderita de la Cruz Roja Española” or Red Cross Day.

Attending this years fundraising stalls were Queen Sofia, Princess Letizia and Infanta Elena.

Her Majesty arrived at the Carrera de San Jerónimo in Madrid at twelve noon and was greeted with loud bursts of applause and shouts of “Long live the Queen”. In a relaxed atmosphere, all three royal ladies posed for photos with well-wishers and donators. Prince Felipe also made an appearance and greeted his wife, mother and sister at their separate fundraising stalls.

The Spanish Red Cross Day is one of the organisation’s chief sources of funding and helps them to cover their various charity projects. The Spanish Royal family has a history and tradition with the Spanish Red Cross of over 100 years.
