Queen Sofia visits El Jerte
Yesterday Queen Sofia made a private visit to one of the most beautiful Spanish landscapes in spring, El Valle del Jerte.
El Valle del Jerte is a valley dedicated to cherry production, located in the community of Extremadura, western Spain, near the Portuguese border. It is more than 40 miles long and contains 15,000 acres of cherries, the biggest planted cherry production in the world. Right before the cherry trees bear fruit, finishing in March and at the beginning of April, everybody can enjoy the beautiful view of the Cherry Trees in flower.
Queen Sofia arrived at Jerte by car, and during the visit she showed interest in explanations about the varieties of cherries, their ripeness, etc, by the mayor of Jerte, Antonio García.
