Danes Attend Parliament Opening
The Danish Royal Family yesterday attended the annual opening of Parliament at Christiansborg Palace.
Queen Margrethe II, wearing a purple ensemble, led the family into the Parliament after arriving last just before noon. As per custom, the family arrive in reverse rank – Princess Benedikte, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie arrived first, followed by the Crown Prince Couple. The most senior members of the Presidium of the Parliament escort the royal family into the Parliament, with Speaker Mogens Løkketoft escorting the Queen.
Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt gave her second opening of Parliament speech, where she stated that in the coming year, there will be a further 21,000 jobs offered to the Danish people to help curb unemployment. The other main focus of the Prime Minister’s speech was education.
Fashion choices were a mixed bag this year – both Crown Princess Mary and Princess Marie chose neutral colour palettes. The Crown Princess recycled a beige lace top and skirt and black knee-length jacket combination, which Princess Marie went for shades of grey, as did Princess Benedikte, although she accented her grey with red stripes and a matching hat. Queen Margrethe offered a lone block of colour in purple.
