Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s 39th Birthday
Today, Crown Princess Mette-Marit celebrates her 39th birthday. She was born on August 19th, 1973 in Kristiansand as the youngest of the four children of Marit Tjessem and Sven O. Høiby.
She met Crown Prince Haakon at the Quart Festival in 1999. At that time, she already had a two year old son, Marius Borg Høiby, from a previous relationship.
On December 1st, the engagement between Crown Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby was announced. The couple married in Oslo Cathedral on August 25th, 2001.
In January 2004 their daughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, second in line to the throne, was born. Almost two years later, in December 2005, Crown Princess Mette-Marit gave birth to another son, Prince Sverre Magnus. The family now lives at Skaugum Estate, outside Oslo.
Crown Princess Mette-Marit is concerned, amongst others, with issues relating to mental health, health care for substance abusers, conditions for children and young people, and HIV/AIDS, which she addresses through her activities in Norway and internationally. She was actively involved in the establishment of The Crown Prince and Crown Princess’s Humanitarian Fund in connection with her wedding.
