Crown Prince Frederik gave a speech at the university, where he mentioned how proud he and Mary were to carry on the tradition of Danish Royal Family members visiting the university. Frederik’s grandparents, King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid, visited Grand View in 1939; and his mother, Queen Margrethe II, 33 years ago.

Frederik also mentioned the long history Denmark has with the United States, and how Grand View is one of only two universities in America founded by Danish immigrants. He concluded his speech by wishing the university all the best for its future endeavors. The full speech can be read here.

From Iowa, it was over the state border to Nebraska, where the Crown Princely Couple attended the Dana College’s 125th anniversary. The Crown Prince was also bestowed an honorary degree from the college, the other Danish-founded college in the USA. View a video of their visit here.

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary were also schedueled to attend the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Novozymes factory in Blair, followed by a dinner Danish-American representatives and business people in Omaha for the Dana College’s anniversary.
