Danish Crown Princely Couple in Bomb Scare
All passengers on a Scandinavian Airlines System flight from Copenhagen Airport to Chicago, which also carried Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, were evacuated yesterday as a passenger remarked that he had a bomb in his backpack.
The person was removed immediately, followed by the evacuation of all the aircraft’s 943 occupants. The plane was then thoroughly searched by the bomb squad before passengers were allowed to return. Police announced that the 43-year-old man has been charged, and faces either a heavy fine or imprisonment.
The Royal Court’s spokesperson, Lene Balleby, told that the Crown Princely Couple waited calmly at the airport until they could return to the aircraft; refuting Ekstra Bladet‘s claims that the pair were taken from the airport entirely. She also said that it was normal for the pair to be flying on regularly schedueled flights, and that they were feeling good about their trip to the United States, despite the two hour delay in their flight.
Prince Frederik and Princess Mary will begin their visit in Chicago, and then travel to Nebraska, Colorado, Iowa and New York.
