Service of Thanksgiving: Royal Fashion

Throughout the Diamond Jubilee celebrations royals made sure their attires were impeccable and occasion-appropriate. Yesterday’s Thanksgiving Service was no exception; royal ladies donned their very best in spectacular variety of colour and style.

Her Majesty set an example with another beautiful creation by her trusted dresser of many years, Angela Kelly. The Queen wore a beautiful mint dress studded with Swarovski crystals. The outfit was made of silk tulle, embroidered with delicate mint green star-shaped flowers and silver thread. It also featured a chiffon drape with Swarovski crystals. The matching hat was covered in the same tulle and draped in green chiffon, also with crystals. And if the outfit wasn’t sparkly enough, Queen Elizabeth wore her famous “Granny’s Chips” brooch – a dazzling creation compromised of Cullinan II and Cullinan IV diamonds weighting a total of 158 carats.

The Duchess of Cornwall received overwhelming praise for her bold ensemble. Camilla wore a patterned gold weave coat by Bruce Oldfield, combining it with matching gold shoes, a cream dress and clutch, and a Philip Treacy hat.

The Duchess of Cambridge looked spectacular in a regal lace dress by Sarah Burton – the same designer who created her wedding dress, as well as a number of other outfits she has worn throughout the Jubilee celebrations. The knee-length elegant dress is a bespoke one but is understood to be a modified version of Alexander McQueen’s printed sheath intarsia dress, which is available at about £1,000. Catherine combined the outfit with a matching hat by Jane Taylor, which is priced at about £790, her favourite nude LK Bennett shoes, and a Prada satin clutch.

Princess Beatrice chose a cornflower blue dress by Kinder Aggugin and tan-coloured Gina shoes. Her hat was by Stephen Jones, while her bag – by Lemeresca. Princess Eugenie meanwhile opted for a beautiful purple dress by Suzannah, also teaming it with a Stephen Jones hat and Gina shoes. Her bag was by Loro Piana.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, looked wonderful in a navy blue skirt suit with cut-out lace panels and embellishments. She teamed it with a matching navy blue hat by Jane Taylor and Jimmy Choo Cosmic heels. Sophie’s daughter, Lady Louise, looked sweet in a chiffon dress and white cardigan.

Princess Anne went for bold colour with an aquamarine dress and suit, the latter featuring delicate embroidery. Her hat was in corresponding colour. The Princess Royal also went for a lovely a delicate aquamarine, pearl and diamond necklace, and an aquamarine brooch. Her daughter made equally memorable fashion statement with her £1,650 peplum skirt suit in navy blue by Herve Leger, and a striking Karen Henriksen hat. Autumn Phillips went for navy blue as well, adding a matching blue hat.

The Kent ladies all looked spectacular with their elegant choices. Katherine, Duchess of Kent – who rarely appears on official functions these days – opted for a silver skirt, light blue jacket and a matching hat. Princess Michael of Kent looked characteristically stunning in metallic blue skirt suit, the most prominent feature of which were puffed sleeves, beautiful wide-brim hat, and matching shoes.  Her daughter-in-law, Lady Frederick Windsor (Sophie Winkleman) went for beige; she looked lovely in beige coat, lovely cream dress, a charming little hat, and an envelope clutch.
