Spanish Royals Preside Over Day of the Armed Forces
Valladolid – June 2nd, 2012
Their Majesties The King and Queen were accompanied by Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Asturias to the historic city of Valladolid in north-central Spain to preside over the Day of the Armed Forces ceremony.
The Prince and Princess have just returned from a busy three-day official visit to Portugal. His Majesty The King was noticeably aided by the use of a crutch during the ceremony which took place at the Plaza Mayor of Valladolid.
There were loud bursts of applause and cheers from the crowds for the King, Queen and the Prince and Princess as they took their places in the review stand. Over 620 soldiers participated in this year’s parade, however due to the on-going austerity measures, the ceremony’s budget was cut by 85%.
Following the military ceremony, the royal party and officials went onto the Royal Palace in Valladolid for a reception.
Last year’s Day of the Armed Forces ceremony took place in Malaga.
