Crown Princess Maxima in Brazil

Princess Maxima visited from Monday May 7 to Thursday 10 May Brazil.

The Princess was invited by the Central Bank in her capacity as special advocate of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon and honorary chair of the G20 ‘Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI). Princess Maxima went to Brazil to promote microcredit and support to the small and medium enterprises.

On Monday May 7, the Princess attended a seminar organized by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank. Were present representatives of Brazilian banks and the government. The seminar was focused on the importance of access to financial services. The Princess gave a speech.

Later in the day, Princess Maxima visited institutions that facilitate and provide financial services in the district Complexa the Almoa.

On May 08 Princess Maxima had meeting with the Minister of Finance, Guido Mantega.

The Princess on Wednesday, May 9, attended the launch of National Action Plan for Inclusive Finance, a plan to help improve access to financial services to the most popular classes in Brazil. Princess Maxima also had a meeting with the Governor of the Central Bank, Alexandre Tombini.

During the last day of her visit, on May 10, the Princess visited a technical vocational training for vocational education. Princess Maxima also attended a lecture with students (15-18 years) about the importance of financial education.

In the afternoon Princess Maxima met the former Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to discuss about a better access to financial services.

Crown Princess Maxima since September 2009 is special advocate of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon. Since June 2011, Princess Máxima is the honorary chair of the G20 ‘Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI).
