Frederik & Mary’s Official Visit to South Korea

The Danish Crown Prince Couple have begun their six-day official visit to South Korea.

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary arrived in Seoul yesterday, May 10th. The couple are being joined by three members of the Danish government – the Ministers for Business and Growth, Development Co-Operation and Trade and Investment: Mr Ole Sohn, Mr Christian Friis Bach and Ms Pia Olsen Dyhr; as well as a series of business representatives.

A visit to the South Korean War Memorial was the first engagement on the agenda, with Prince Frederik and Princess Mary laying a wreath emblazoned with their monograms on the Danish colours red and white at the base of the a memorial wall listing the names of Danish soldiers who were killed in the Korean War. A minute’s silence was held before the two royals each lit a stick on incense and struck a ceremonial gong.

It was then on to a meeting with the South Korean Prime Minister, Mr Kim Hwang-sik, who officially welcomed the couple to the Asian nation. The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s residence, with the visit’s aim to improve relations between Denmark and South Korea. Last night, Prince Frederik and Princess Mary were guests of honour at a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Kim.

Crown Princess Mary has kicked-off the South Korean trip with comparisons to Jacqueline Kennedy Onasis (see this article at Hello magazine). Her flowy pale yellow pleated dress, paired with nude accessories including a pill-box style hat, drew immediate comparisons with the former United States First Lady.

The Crown Prince Couple will be in South Korea until May 15th.
