Princess Mary’s “Pop Art” Portrait
Crown Princess Mary yesterday unveiled a new portrait during an event on Children’s Aid Day.
As patron of Børnehjælpsdagen, the Children’s Aid Foundation, the Princess unveiled a portrait of herself painted by Romero Britto. Mr Britto, a Brazilian artist, is well-known for his pop art style of portraits, featuring abstract shapes and bright colours. He has previously painted Princess Charléne of Monaco.
Princess Mary wore a recycled deep purple dress for the event. The new painting features the Princess wearing the diamond and ruby tiara inherited from Queen Ingrid (who was the previous patron of Børnehjælpsdagen), but Mr Britto’s take on the tiara sees it comprised of white and red love hearts.
Crown Princess Mary became patron of the foundation in 2005.
