Baby Estelle Makes Balcony Debut
Sweden’s infant Princess Estelle made her balcony debut today, celebrating her grandfather’s 66th birthday.
King Carl XVI Gustaf celebrated his birthday by greeting the people from the courtyard of the Royal Palace of Stockholm. The King and Prince Carl Philip took a military salute, before the army band paraded for the crowd that gathered while the King received flowers from children, as he does each year. ‘Happy Birthday’ was then sung in its Swedish form.
In the window above the courtyard was Queen Silvia, and then the Crown Princess and Prince Daniel appeared as a surprise. Later, when the King joined his family at the window, Crown Princess Victoria reappeared with little Estelle cradled in her arms. Victoria held Estelle up so the crowd could catch a glimpse of the second in line for the throne, while Daniel gently maneouvered his daugher’s hand into a wave.
Princess Estelle was born on February 23rd, and is the first grandchild of King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia.
