King Juan Carlos Fractures His Hip
Madrid – April 14th, 2012
His Majesty King Juan Carlos I has undergone surgery this morning following a fall in which he suffered a fracture in three fragments of his right hip. The 74-year-old monarch was on a private visit to Botswana; the Palace said the King’s fall in Botswana was “accidental” but gave no further details regarding his visit.
The King was taken to the San Jose Hospital in Madrid last night and had surgery on his hip this morning. The palace said: “King Juan Carlos had suffered a fracture of his right hip in three pieces. A reconstruction of the parts of the fracture was carried out and a hip implant was installed.”
This accident comes only days after the King’s eldest grandson, Don Felipe Juan de Marichalar, was admitted to hospital following a shooting accident in Soria, where he shot himself in the foot.
