Crown Princess Mathilde: Three Day Visit to Albania

From March 28 to 30, Princess Mathilde visited Albania in her capacity as Special Representative for the Immunization of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Europe.

At Tirana International Airport, she was received by Albania’s Prime Minister Sali
Berisha and Albania’s Health Minister Petrit Vasili. The purpose of the trip was to highlight the work of health professionals as part of the vaccination campaign in 2012 by WHO.

The first day of the visit started with a meeting with the with Albania’s Health Minister Petrit Vasili, where she was informed about the immunization system in Albania and all the projects currently being developed in the country. Princess Mathilde said she is “committed to support the best practices of immunization in the European region and she stressed the importance to support and motivate the parents to immunization of future generations.”

The first day ended with a reception organized by the Belgian Embassy at the Rogner Hotel.

The second day, March 29, started with a visit at the Health Centers in Bushat. Princess Mathilde had meetings with health care workers. Later, the Princess went to the polyclinics “Koliku Bahri” in the city of Shkodra, where she partecipated in a roundtable meeting and also met employees of the health system.

On the third and last day, March 30, Princess Mathilde has visited a primary school in Tirana and also the Durres Archeological Museum and Amphitheatre in Tirana.

The European Immunization Week will be held between April 21 and 27, 2012.
