King and Queen of Jordan end Portugal visit

On Day two of the visit to Portugal, King Abdullah opened on Tuesday a drug factory affiliated to Amman-based Hikma Pharmaceuticals. During the opening, King Abdullah was briefed by Hikma Vice Chairman Mazen Darwazah on the manufacturing process in the factory which rely on using advanced technologies.

Later that day, King Abdullah met with the Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates to discuss bilateral cooperation and efforts to launch serious negotiations to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. King Abdullah voiced his keenness to build a strong partnership with Portugal, noting that there is great potential for cooperation, especially in the fields of renewable energy, ICT, pharmaceuticals and tourism.

Queen Rania also had an activity on her last day of the visit to Potugal which was a visit to the Miguel Torga Secondary School in Lisbon, accompanied by Portuguese First Lady Maria Cavaco Silva. The school is supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation which promotes a wide range of projects in the fields of art, education, charity and science including the Generation Project launched in 2005 as a pilot initiative providing training to local children living in disadvantaged communities.

During the her visit to the school, Queen Rania watched a performance by the school’s youth orchestra. At the end of the performance the children offered Queen Rania a small gift on behalf of the orchestra and the Generation Project.
