Crown Princess Máxima in Mexico for G20 Meeting
From September 30 to October 01, Princess Máxima was in Riviera Maya, Mexico, to be present at the activities of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI), as honorary chairman and United Nations adviser for inclusive finance.
On September 30, The Princess opened the first GPFI G20 Forum with Mexican President Calderon. During the forum, Princess Máxima spoke to the participants at the conference, who were governors of central banks. Also during her trip, the Princess had several meetings with President Calderon, as well as the Secretary and Minister of Finance.
In her speech at the forum, Princess Máxima encouraged members to continue to accelerate national data efforts as well as contribute to global efforts, such as the G20’s Global Partnership sub-group on data and measurement. She stressed that “financial inclusion helps reach financial stability by having broader savings base and a diversified loan portfolio. And financial stability will help financial inclusion as it will be delivered by diverse, strong and stable institutions.”
Since September 2009, Crown Princess Maxima has been a special advocate of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon. In June 2011, Princess Maxima was nominated honorary chair of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion.
