Crown Princess Máxima: Two-Day Meeting in Washington

From 23 to 25 September, Princess Maxima was in Washington to attend the autumn meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, in her role as special advocate for the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.

On Friday September 23, the Princess attended a forum titled “Financial Inclusion, Advancing the Global Challenge,” along with Dr. H.P.M. Knapen, the Dutch Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Princess Maxima also was present with the Secretary of State, Ben Knapen, at a panel regarding obstacles for financial inclusion and the role of the private sector in expanding services to households and businesses.

On Saturday September 24, Princess Máxima spoke with with Professor K. Knot, president of the Nederlandsche Bank, and Mr S. Ingves, president of the Swedish Central Bank and the new chairman of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. Princess Máxima also had various bilateral meetings with representatives of financial institutions of different countries.

In the autumn meeting, Princess Máxima presented the second annual report on her activities as the UN’s advocate for inclusive finances. In June 2011, Princess Máxima became the honorary chairwoman of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI).
