Day two of the Dannebrog tour began at the port in Hanstholm on August 23rd, where once again the royal twins, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, made an appearance to greet the crowds with their parents. They were given over to their nannies soon after, so Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary could go ashore to being their official program.

After greeting the crowd which had gathered to see in the royal yacht, the couple attended a welcoming ceremony at the Museums Center Hanstholm.

The couple then went their seperate their ways. The Crown Prince headed off to the Klitmøller beach, where he spoke with locals and reporters. The beach is reputed to have the best surfing waves in Northern Europe, and naturally, the Prince was asked whether or not he was able to surf. He replied, “I’ve been surfing in Tasmania with my brother-in-law…I actually caught a single wave.” He was therefore presented with a gift voucher for some surfing lessons at the beach.

Meanwhile, the Crown Princess was visiting the Hanstholm Asylum Centre, where she was briefed on the centre’s operations and met with the children in the centre’s nursery school. She later headed on to the Royal Danish Seafood company, where the Princess tasted the Japanese eel delicacy, kabayaki, and participated in the renaming ceremony of the company – it is now the Royal Danish Fish company. Later in the afternoon, Princess Mary visited a kindergarden in Thisted.

The following day, day three, it was only Crown Prince Frederik who was ‘on show’ – out bright and early to open the fish auction at the auction office in Hanstholm. The Prince, after opening the auction by ringing a customary large gold bell, then acted as auctioneer for the seafood on offer – lobsters. Apparently, the lobsters sold for 405DKK per kilo.
