Establishment of the Prince of Girona Foundation
Yesterday it was announced that a new foundation, the Prince of Girona Foundation, will be established in Spain. The Honorary President will be Prince Felipe of Spain. As heir to the Spanish Crown, Prince Felipe holds the title Prince of Girona.
Four companies linked to Girona (Girona Camber of Commerce, Caixa Girona, Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation and La Caixa) will be founders of the new institution, whose main goals are “The projection of social activities in the wider sense, the promotion of education and formation of the youth, both in Catalonia and in the rest of Spain”. It will be a private and non-profit foundation, and will be financed from private funds, though public institutions will be able to take part in concrete programs.
Yesterday, the Prince and Princess of Asturias received in their private residence representatives of the founding companies who propose that Prince Felipe be Honorary President.
In a press release the founders explain why they thought of Prince Felipe to preside over the institution, “He always has emphasized his commitment with Girona supporting initiatives that pursue the general interest of the citizens and, particularly, of the youth and those who need a major protection “.
