The Princess of Asturias celebrated today, for the first time in Spain and the second in Europe, the Rare Diseases Day 2009 which was organized by the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases (FEDER), a non profit organization founded in 1999. Its main goal is “the visibility of these rare diseases and advocating for the rights of people living with rare diseases”. On the First International Day FEDER wants to give a message in Spain in order to consider the necessity of creating a Rare Diseases Global Pact.

To celebrate this Day FEDER organized a few events, through its social consciousness-raising campaign “We’re more than 3 millions and nonetheless we’re alone, Join us in the Rare Diseases Global Pact”, the main event took place today in the Senate building and presided over by the Princess of Asturias.

Princess Letizia presented the first FEDER awards 2009, whose intention is to recognise the efforts of those who fight against the Rare Diseases.
