Royal Fashion Highlights at Ascot 2011

Day One:

Ascot week started with the daily carriage procession, lead by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh in the first carriage, and included the Duke of York, the Princesses of York, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall. Also been spotted that day were Princess Anne with Timothy Laurence, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, Princess Haya of Jordan with her husband Sheikh Mohammed and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.

Her Majesty appeared in a very soft mint green coat, wearing a light floral dress underneath which matched well with the coat. Her light green hat, with pink and more vibrant green details, on the other hand matched perfectly with her coat and the details of the dress – that’s how we know the well organized Queen!

Princess Beatrice appeared in an almost timeless nude and black combo, topped by a very subdued light beige hat. The elegant black jacket was by Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti, her dress by 3.1 Phillip Lim/Spring 2011. Her sister Eugenie went for a more vibrant outfit – a jade green dress by the label Issa, matched with a cream cropped jacket and a beret-like petrol green hat.

The Duchess of Cornwall recycled the magnificent outfit she wore to Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s wedding: dress and coat both designed by Anna Valentine, hat by Philip Treacy. Another lovely sighting of the day was Princess Haya – she chose a figure-hugging purple dress by Prada and a white hat with large white and flowers in several shades of purple on it. Princess Anne wore an elegant and fashionable ice blue skirt suit with an almost bell-shaped hat that had a large bow on it, while Princess Michael repeated one of her timeless light green skirt suits from the late 90’s to which she added a wide brimmed light beige hat.

As a surprise the Countess of Wessex went for a striking pink outfit: a fancy jacket with puff sleeves and matching skirt, and a huge Ascot-worthy saucer hat with a “wild” pink flower added on it – another intesting creation by Philip Treacy.

Day 2:

On the second day of the races, Queen Elizabeth appeared in a classy looking creme white coat on which she pinned the Williamson brooch. The delicate 23,6 carat pink diamond of the brooch matched perfectly with her hat – a soft pink piece, its shape made some think of an ice-cream dessert.

Together in one carriage, the Duchess of Gloucester and Princess Alexandra made their entry. The Duchess of Gloucester wore a champagne ensemble with a large collar and a decently elegant hat – a pearl necklace finished the look well. Princess Alexandra chose rich blue for the day – wearing a skirt suit and hat (a typical “Alexandra”) in the same shade which had blue and red flowers on it.

Princess Anne went for a mustard outfit with matching hat that has made its first performance at the balcony of Buckingham Palace at Trooping The Colour in 1980, while the Countess of Wessex went for more experimental and furthermore more typical Ascot clothes and accessory: wearing a figure-accentuating black jacket over a blue dress, she wore a spectacular blue fascinator with peacock feathers on it – certainly an eye-catcher. Princess Haya wore a beautiful strawberry red suit, topped by a purple hat, that day.

Day 3:

Ladies’ Day! This special day, another “hatter” made its debut attending the carriage procession: Mrs. Carole Middleton. She wore a fitting light beige suit. Her jacket had grey embroidery on it which could found again on the wide-brimmed hat. Her Majesty attended in a lovely watermelon pink outfit – her coat had little ruffles on it while the typical hat a ruffled red flower and light green details added.

Princess Beatrice wore a lady-like midnight-blue coat with a soft blue scarf, a matching fascinator with a white rose and black heels. The Countess of Wessex recycled the champagne coat she had worn to Epson Derby and added a large saucer hat that had soft pink feathers on the inside. A lovely but also discreetly elegant ensemble was chosen by Princess Anne – soft purple dress with a long light coat and a matching hat. Another lovely sight of the day: Princess Haya in a knee-length beige jacket, matching dress underneath, nude heels and a purple headpiece with fine feathers.

Day 4:

Soft long curls, discreet make up, a black fascinator with a big black rose by the favored royal milliner Treacy, a creme jacket and a black polka dot dress with wide skirt – that was the modern and yet demurely elegant style with which Princess Eugenie made her entry on rather rainy day four of Royal Ascot. The Queen wore a pale yellow outfit, her lovely hat seemed to continue the theme of her dress with red, green and light yellow colored details.

The carriage procession on day four also included Princess Michael of Kent who wore a repeated ice green skirt suit and a white hat with large feathers on its left. A green necklace, diamond earrings and a green brooch completed the look. Also been spotted on the race ground of Ascot was the young Lady Amelia Windsor. Wearing a black dress and a white short jacket, a blue feather fascinator worn to her long hair – which suited to the blue pashimina she had with her – she looked very fashionable.

Day 5:

The fifth and last day of Ascot week, Queen Elizabeth II once again appeared in all her reliable elegance. A lovely sky-blue coat she chose over a repeated white dress with green and blue flower pattern. Her brimmed sky-blue hat had blue-green flowers on it. One of the fashionable headturners of the day for sure was Princess Eugenie of York. A low-cut scarlet red dress by Alexander McQueen she chose to stand out on the last day. Navy blue high-heels and a matching navy blue hat with a veil completed the sensational outfit.
