State Visit to Slovenia

Yesterday the Norwegian King Harald V and his wife Queen Sonja started their 2-day State Visit to Slovenia.
The Royal couple was formally welcomed President Türk and Mrs Miklič Türk at Brdo Castle about 30 kilometres outside the capital city of Ljubljana.

After the welcoming ceremony a plenary session was held. Later King Harald also met with Slovenia’s President of the National Assembly Dr. Pavel Gantar and Prime Minister Borut Pahor.
Meanwhile Queen Sonja visited Plečnik House – a part of the Architecture Museum of Ljubljana.

Later the day the King and Queen were given a tour of the capital Ljubljana. During the tour they visited the City Hall in the centre of the Old Town. They also visited the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, the Central Market and Prešeren Square.
In the evening the couple attended a gala dinner hosted by President Türk and Mrs Miklič Türk at Brdo Castle.

 

The next day the Royal couple attended the business seminar “The Slovenian-Norwegian Forum of Competence”.
Later they visited a rehabilitation centre at the University Rehabilitation Institute (URI Soča). The King and Queen also had an opportunity to meet children from Gaza during the visit.

Afterwards the Norwegian Royals travelled to Radovljica – a town in the northwestern of Slovenia. They were welcomed by Mayor Ciril Globočnik, who also accompanied them on a tour through the Old Town.

The same day the King and Queen attended a luncheon at Villa Bled, before the State Visit was concluded in the afternoon.
