Death of Princess Teresa of Orleans-Bragança
Yesterday, princess Teresa of Orleans-Bragança died at the age of 91. The princess died in her home at the Rua D. Afonso Henriques in Estoril, Portugal.
The princess was the youngest daughter of Prince Pedro of Brazil and his wife Countess Elisabeth Dobrzensky von Dobrzenicz. The princess often attended royal gatherings in Europe, due to the marriages of her siblings. Her eldest sister Isabelle married the late count of Paris, pretender to the French throne. Her brother João married princess Marie de la Esperanza of the Two Sicilies, maternal aunt of king Juan Carlos I of Spain. Her 2nd sister Francisca married Dom Duarte Pio, duke of Bragança and head of the Portuguese royal family.
The princess was raised in Brazil and at the parental house in Boulogne-Billencourt, France. Rumoured engagements to Archduke Otto of Austria, prince Charles of Belgium and prince Constantine of Bavaria didn’t prove to be true. Her engagement to her cousin prince Carlos of the Two-Sicilies ended when carlos was killed in action during the Spanish civil war. In 1957 she married the business man Ernesto Martorell y Calderó in Sintra, Portugal. Together the couple got two children: Elisabeth (goddaughter of the king of Spain) and Nurcia.
