Al Jazeera television reported on Tuesday that Kuwait’s ruler has decided to dissolve parliament after Islamist lawmakers asked to question the prime minister over his government’s handling of the economic crisis.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Kuwait quoted parliamentary sources as saying Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah, who has the last word in politics, would issue a decree to dissolve parliament.

This is not the first time the emir dissolves a problem in the government. A year ago, the emir dissolved parliament to end a row between MPs and the cabinet.

Kuwait’s parliament is the most outspoken in the region. Its mostly governed by ruling families. Rows between the government and members of parliament have often led to cancellation of government projects and delays in proposed reforms.
