A Sad Rose Ball: Monaco Town and Princess Antoinette
As per tradition, once again the Rose Ball has been held in the Salle des Etoiles in the Sporting Club of Monte Carlo, but this time, the event was slightly different: with the death of Princess Antoinette of Monaco, elder sister of Prince Rainier III, Prince Albert II and his fiancée Charlene Wittstock and Princess Caroline decided not to attend, due to the mourning period that is surronding the Principality.
However, Princess Caroline’s children attended the Ball in representation of the Princely Family, and Andrea Casiraghi, the eldest of the Princess’ children, gave a touching speech honouring their great-aunt. After the speech, the Casiraghis left the Ball.
This year’s theme was “Bal de la Rose MOnaco Town!” MOnaco Town in reference to the Motown record label founded in Detroit. The evening is dedicated to the years 1960-1970, the time of soul music in the USA and the decorations included the scenery of Detroit, abandoned factories, broken windows, walls of brick and metal, all in black and white. Glamorous table decorations were planned in contrast to that.
