Dutch Royal Family attended “Prince Claus Award” 2010

On Friday 17 December, Her Majesty the Queen and Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Orange, Princess Máxima, Prince Friso, Princess Mabel, Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien attended the presentation of the Prince Claus Award to the Algerian publisher Barzakh Editionsat at the Royal Palace.

The prize is awarded by Prince Friso, who along with Prince Constantijn is honorary chair of the Prince Claus Fund.

The theme of the Prince Claus Award this year is’ Boundaries of Reality. This theme addresses the Prince Claus Fund to individuals and organizations whose exceptional performance beyond challenge and change our reality and thus contribute to the development of society.

Winner Barzakh Editions is an independent publisher in Algiers that has created a platform for a new generation of Algerian writers. Barzakh Editions was founded in 2000 by Selma and Sofiane Hadjadj Hellal. The publisher is honored with the Prince Claus Award for giving a voice to Algerians, offering space for critical reflection on the Algerian reality and to build a bridge between different languages and cultures. The prize is 100,000 Euros Barzakh Editions.

The Prince Claus Awards are presented by the Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development since 1997 annually to artists, thinkers and cultural organizations, particularly in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. The Fund operates the laureates for their work and dedication in the field of cultural and social engagement.
