Princess Alexandra Celebrates 40th Birthday
Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, daughter of Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Princess Benedikte of Denmark, turned forty on November 20th.
To celebrate her milestone birthday, Alexandra and her family – husband Count Jefferson of Pfeil and Klein-Ellguth, and children Count Richard and Countess Ingrid – headed to Venice, Italy for a brief vacation. She gave an interview to Danish magazine Billed Bladet as part of her birthday, in which she said that she is not nervous about turning forty and that she and her husband were looking forward to spending time together with their children, who at 11 and 7 are old enough to absorb what Venice has to offer.
Born on November 20th, 1970 as Her Highness Princess Alexandra Rosemarie Ingrid Benedikte of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, in Copenhagen Alexandra is the second child and first daughter of Princess Benedikte of Denmark and Richard, 6th Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. She joined elder brother, Prince Gustav. Younger sister Princess Nathalie came along in 1975.
As the family lived mainly in Germany, at Prince Richard’s family estate of Bad Berleburg, they failed to meet the condition King Frederik IX – Princess Alexandra’s maternal grandfather – imposed upon his daughter if she wished that her children be in the line of succession to the Danish throne: they must be raised in Denmark.
Princess Alexandra married Count Jefferson of Pfeil and Klein-Ellguth on June 6th, 1998 at Gråsten Palace in Southern Denmark. They welcomed their first child, a son named Friedrich Richard, on September 14th, 1999. On August 16th, 2003 Princess Alexandra gave birth to a daughter, Ingrid (after her maternal grandmother, Queen Ingrid).
Princess Alexandra and her family currently reside in Paris, France.
