Princess Lalla Salma opens the exhibition ‘Yves Saint Laurent and Morocco’
Friday night in Marrakech, Princess Lalla Salma attended the inauguration ceremony of ‘Yves Saint Laurent and Morocco’ exhibition organized at the Museum of the Majorelle Garden under the patronage of King Mohammed VI.
The Princess visited the different shelves and areas of this exhibition which comprises 44 creations by this world-famous fashion designer sumptuously accessorized and accompanied by a series of pictures documents and sketches. The exhibition presents a very-well designed interior of a Moroccan house.It includes reinterpretations by Yves Saint Laurent of caftans (traditional clothes for women),capes,Sarouels with Moroccan embroideries (traditional trousers for men) and soft furnishings.
In the exhibition’s second room called the color, Christophe Martin the stage designer takes the visitor outside the house into nature.Another area dubbed ideal Africa houses timeless items made of surprising substances mainly wooden beads mica and raffia.
A big lover of Morocco and Marrakech especially the late Saint Laurent visited often the North African country to find influence and refuge in his mythic propertie the Majorelle Villa, after his death in 2008 Mr Saint Laurent’s body was cremated and his ashes were scattered in Marrakech Morocco in the Majorelle Garden.
The exhibition Initiated by the Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent foundation this exhibition will be set up later on in Casablanca and open for the Moroccan public until March 18 2010.
