Lalla Salma Association Against Cancer’s Fifth Anniversary

For the occasion of the national Day to fight cancer Princess Lalla Salma presided on Monday in Rabat over the closing of the 2009 ordinary General Meeting of the Lalla Salma Association Against Cancer (ALSC) as well as the awards ceremony of national and international prizes for the year 2010.

The international prize this year was awarded to F. Hoffmann-La Roche Laboratory for its various scientific researches in the field of cancer as well as its social activities across the world particularly in Morocco through various partnerships with ALSC.The national award went to Professor Said Benchekroun head of the department of Hematology/Oncology of ‘August 20 Hospital’ in Casablanca.

This year the Lalla Salma Association Against Cancer celebrates the  fifth anniversary of its creation the association presented its achievements made in different areas of the fight against cancer in association with the Department of Health and various national and international partners.

In this context and according to ALSC 2009 report presented at the Association’s General meeting whose closing ceremony was presided over by Princess Lalla Salma access to care in specialized centers in Morocco rose from 11,500 in 2005 to 20,000 patients in 2009.In 2009 also the Association elaborated a national plan to prevent and control cancer established a program of access to innovative medicines for the needy and developed a real partnership with several institutions and national and international NGOs.

Last year ALSC was recognized nationally and internationally as a major player in the fight against cancer at the Eastern Mediterranean Region.

After the presentation of ALSC report by the board of directors and the auditor to the Association’s members,partners and donors as well as its approval resolutions were adopted by the General Meeting.
