Lyon and Rome for Charlotte
Thursday: Jumping competition in Lyon, check! Friday, jumping in Lyon again, check! Saturday, red carpet in Rome with brother’s girlfriend, check! It’s all in a typical week for Charlotte Casiraghi, elder daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco and her second husband, the late World Offshore Champion Stefano Casiraghi. Yes, indeed, Miss Casiraghi removed her Gucci jodhpurs and riding boots for the day on Saturday, 30 October 2010, replacing them with an elegant cocktail dress and T-strap heels. She accompanied brother Pierre’s girlfriend, the Italian television personality Beatrice Borromeo, to view the World Restoration Premiere of “La Dolce Vita,” as it was screened at the Auditorium Parco Della Musica during the fifth annual International Rome Film Festival.
The screening was presented by Martin Scorsese to pay tribute to Federico Fellini’s 1960 classic. Scorsese’s institute, the Film Foundation, helped restore the film which Scorsese considers to be a landmark work in cinema.
Prior to Saturday’s red carpet event, Charlotte has been in Lyon, France to compete against other amateur riders of the 2* class in the Equita’ Horse Show, which also has events for professional 5* class riders. Charlotte entered the show with Tintero, a grey Belgian Warmblood gelding who was born in 1999. Over the past year, Tintero has taken Charlotte to impressive results, by far better than the ones she achieved with another horse, named Troy. But so far, in Lyon, Tintero hasn’t been performing with his usual carefree brilliance.
On Thursday, they flew over a course of 1.35-meter jumps with good speed, but their 12 penalty points knocked them to the near-bottom ranks in the results. On Friday, they were eliminated from the Prix Sommer competition, a speed test with one jump-off over 1.45-meter obstacles, in which the Greek heiress Athina Onassis de Miranda took fifth place and 1500 euros of the prize. The Equita’ Horse Show continues through Sunday, 31 October and ends on the succeeding Monday.
