Prince Ali of Jordan plans to fill the position of FIFA Vice President

During a news conference in Amman, HRH Prince Ali bin al Hussein of Jordan started his campaign to fill the position of FIFA Vice President representing Asia.

The Prince, who is the founder and head of the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) and has been the President of the Jordanian Football Association over the past decade, said “My goal is to restore the values of fair play – a key FIFA principle – and build a new equilibrium in which all Asian countries, whether big or small, rich or poor will benefit.” Ali added, “I’m eager to help bring change in representing Asia within FIFA.” He also talked about his future aims and plans to develop the Asian football and his contacts to support his candidacy.

By this announcement the young Hashemite Prince became one of the youngest candidates in FIFA history. He was born in Amman on December 23rd, 1975, to their late majesties King Hussein and Queen Alia of Jordan. Prince Ali attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and holds the rank of a Brigadier in the Jordanian Armed Forces. He served also as the commander of His Majesty King Abdullah II’s special security in the Royal Guards from 1999 to 2008 when he established and now directsa National Centre for Security and Crisis Management.

His brother, Prince Faisal, and his sister, Princess Haya, are both members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Princess Haya is also the president of the FEI. The Prince is married to the Algerian born, CNN-former journalist Rym Lakhdar Brahimi – now HRH Princess Rym Ali – and together they have two children: Princess Jalilah (b. born 16 September 2005) and Prince Abdullah (born 19 March 2007).
