Crown Prince Hussein’s First Official Duty

Jordan’s Crown Prince Hussein represented his father, Abdullah II, in the Army Day and the Great Arab Revolt Anniversary celebrations. This ceremony, which took place at the Martyr’s Monument in Amman last Tuesday, was attended by the kingdom’s top government and military officials, including royal family members.

The young Crown Prince’s first official appearance without his parents started with the national anthem and 21-gun salute from the armed forces. After that he toured the site, watered its olive tree and signed the visitor book.

Jordan’s news agency Petra also published his new official portrait and reported that he asked the concerned authorities to provide large flat screens for the country’s youth centers to enable its members to watch FIFA World Cup 2010 matches.

HRH Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah, who is currently studying at the King’s Academy High School in Jordan, will celebrate his 16th birthday at the end of this month (June 28th). He is the eldest son of King Abdullah II and his wife Queen Rania. King Abdullah II named him as the Crown Prince of Jordan by a Royal Decree issued in July 2009.
