Medvedev Visits Denmark
Following his state visit to Norway, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev spent April 27th and April 28th in Denmark, paying a state visit to Queen Margrethe II.
President Medvedev and his wife, First Lady Svetlana Medvedeva, arrived to Copenhagen Airport in Kastrup just after noon on Tuesday; where they were greeted by the Queen, the Prince Consort, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie and Princess Benedikte. The customary royal guard of honour was also present for the arrival.
The party then travelled to Fredensborg Palace, where the royal couple and their visitors posed for photos. In the evening, a gala dinner was hosted at the Palace by Queen Margrethe for President Medvedev.
On Wednesday, President Medvedev met with Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, where the two held talks. According to Berlingske, both leaders agreed that relations between the countries has been “normalised after past disagreements and mistrust”, and that “it is time to look forward.” Medvedev then joined up with Crown Prince Frederik and attended the plenary session of the Russian-Danish Business Conference.
First Lady Medvedeva had a seperate program. Accompanied by Crown Princess Mary, she visited Rosenborg Castle and partook in a guided tour. The day, and state visit was concluded by a return dinner hosted by the Russian President at Restaurant Nimb, followed by a Russian ballet performance at the Tivoli Concert Hall.
Medvedev is the first Russian President to visit Denmark since 1964, when the leader of the then Soviet Union, Nikita Khrushchev, paid a visit.
