Lalla Salma Launches the National Plan for Cancer Prevention and Control
Princess Lalla Salma, Chairwoman of the Lalla Salma Association for the Fight Against Cancer, chaired on Wednesday in Skhirat (south of Rabat) the official launch of the national plan for cancer prevention and control (PNPCC). Initiated in a partnership between the Lalla Salma Association for the Fight Against Cancer and the Health Ministry, the PNPCC seeks to provide quality medical care throughout the Kingdom.
The plan’s implementation spanned two years in collaboration with the different actors involved in the fight against cancer as well as international experts. The PNPCC includes 78 measures of prevention, early detection, diagnostic care and therapy and palliative treatment. The prevention programs comprise the fight against tobacco, the promotion of healthy living and the reduction of behavioural risks.
The Plan includes also a program for the early detection of breast and cervical cancer that would be carried out in over 30 cancer screening centers.
The PNPCC ensures access to health care services for all patients all over the Kingdom via the building of four regional oncology centers in Safi, Laâyoune, Meknès and Tangier, two gynaecological oncology centers in Rabat and Casablanca, and two paediatric oncology centers in Fez and Marrakech. The Plan is worth 8 billion dirhams ($US956mln) and covers a period of 10 years.
